15 years ago, PSI designed and engineered a chipping facility for Scott Davis Chips. The mill incorporates the first ‘Less Lifter’ Drum Shell technology. Upon recent inspection, the infeed shell showed a reduced shell thickness (from 1.25″ originally down to .875″.) So after processing 10,000,000 tons of material the decision was made to change out the shell.
After discussion, SDC decided to be the first to install Endurance’s new ‘Cold Weather’ debarking technology. This new design allows the drum to operate with minimal fiber losses during the ‘easy debarking’ months, and to process wood aggressively during the winter months.
This method will greatly assist drum users in cold or frozen conditions where previously production rates were reduced to maintain acceptable bark levels.
